We are delighted to announce that Peter Badham has agreed to allow the first four chapters of the Delvings book to be made available free of charge to registered members of the Family History Group.

Many of you will be aware that the original Badham One Name Society (from which the current Family History Group evolved) had a focus on the origins, possible variations, earliest evidence of use, early numbers and geographic distribution of the Badham surname. This work is commonly recognised as a 'One Name Study', and the Society was (as the Group continues to be) a member of the Guild of One Name Studies.

A lot of work was done (led by Peter Badham) and much of that is contained in Peter’s book 'Badham Delvings'. Unfortunately this is now out of print, and due to the cost of printing set against a slow demand and the need to update with more recent research it is likely to remain out of print in its current form. There is healthy debate within the Group, especially concerning the future of an ‘ebook’ version, and Peter is even contemplating a follow-up edition with updated and new material.

While this is good and exciting news, we are conscious that the One Name material is at present largely inaccessible. Some of it is referred to in some of the articles published on the website, but that is very limited and certainly not ordered and collated as it is in the Delvings book. In addition, the effort involved in separately drawing together all the material in any other form is daunting and likely to be time-consuming.

However, as stated, Peter has agreed to allow the first four chapters of the Delvings book, in a downloadable PDF format, to be made available free of charge to registered members of the Family History Group.

You will need to be a registered member and logged into the site. Once logged in you will then see an additional menu item under the 'Badham Delvings' menu item (look for Free 'Limited Edition').

The availability and download is conditional on you agreeing to recognise the copyright protected nature of the material and agreeing not to distribute any of the contents in any form.
